NamPower has inaugurated its first fully owned and operated renewable energy plant, the Omburu 20 MW PV Power Station. The power station located on the outskirts of Omaruru, was constructed by HopSol Africa, a unit of Alpha Namibia Industries Renewable Power Limited and is expected to have capacity to power around 18,500 homes. Alpha Namibia Industries Renewable Power Limited (ANIREP) has secured a new contract to construct and operate a 18.5 megawatt (MW) solar plant to be located at Kokerboom in Keetmanshoop. The implementation costs of the project is estimated at N$300 million, with Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb the off taker.
The Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) has to date funded renewable projects in the country valued at N$1.231 billion. This comes as the development bank provided N$193 million to Anirep Aussenkjerr Solar One to finance the construction of the 20MW Khan solar plant.
