ANIREP: Lighting Namibia: Onwards and Upwards

Alpha Namibia Industries Renewable Power Limited (ANIREP) hosted a groundbreaking event on the 29th of March at the new ANIREP AUSSENKJER SOLAR ONE NAMIBIA (AASON) solar plant project near Usakos. Founded in 2018, ANIREP’s goal is to help bring affordable and sustainable power to Namibia and enable greater energy self-sufficiency.  This project will assist the country reduce electricity imports and create a sustainable green energy future for Namibia.

ANIREP’s goal is to increase the commercial installed renewable energy generation in Namibia from the current 150MW to 760MW by 2025.

To date, ANIREP has helped avoid the release of 700,000 million tons of CO2 by using solar power.  This is ANIREP’s third solar plant, but the first that is being constructed from the ground up. The Khan Solar plant will produce 20 MegaWatts of power almost tripling the capacity of their other two solar plants, with 5 Megawatts of power being produced at the Otjiwarongo Solar Park and 5.73 Megawatts at the Grootfontein Solar Park.

Since December 2020 ANIREP has been the only Alternative Electricity Utility entity on the main board of the Namibian Stock Exchange.

The groundbreaking event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the office of the Governor of the Erongo Region, the Mayor of Usakos, NamPower’s Managing Director, and other stakeholders from the mines and energy industry.
